Yes, we can identify our own sphere of influence and then act in constructive ways within that sphere. So important to do this, especially when we are caught in destructive moods. Taking action in these ways is so key.
As for the option of an open convention, the points against it are all important to note, risks and costs to weigh in the calculus. I wasn't yet born in 1968 but read enough books about it to know how costly was that convention, especially coupled with nominating a candidate who himself was the VP to the sitting president (read: the story has multiple lessons!). I have to admit that I don't fully know - nobody does, really—how the party apparatus and culture are similar to how they were in 1968 and how they are different, but I suspect very different.
